If you have been following us recently, you will have seen and heard @alexscottbjj and I @freerangebjj discussing our increased meditation practice over quarantine. We could continue to talk about the myriad benefits of meditation and how our practice has assisted over this time, but lived experience will be a more true guide. So we invite you to meditate, every day, for 21 days and then to share with us anything you notice from the experience. We won’t put too many parameters in place; meditate for 5 minutes or 50 minutes, meditate standing, sitting, lying down, inside, outside, but COMMIT to finding space in your day.
Don’t let uncertainty of “how to meditate” stop you from participating, do not get caught up on right and wrong. We will be posting some guides and techniques over the 21 days to our stories to assist and provide a check in, but start by simply by becoming still in your body, breathing, feeling, and noticing what comes up.
Why 21 days? This has nothing to do with habit formation, which is nothing if not a slow burn of discipline and courage. But...the gym could well be open in 21 days (if not before), and while we have many tools to prepare our bodies to return to training, we to should think about preparing our minds to return to training. We should prepare our minds so that we can better choose our “new normal” as we return to life after quarantine.
