Oh the beautiful avocado. This is such a debatable food, not only from a health food perspective but also a sustainability perspective. Let's talk about the sustainability of the avocado. 👇 - I've talked about how imported food is not as sustainable as locally grown food, and the avocado is a perfect example. - 1. Most avocados that you find at your local grocery store are not locally grown and have been most likely imported from places like Mexico. 2. The avocado season is from spring through summer. If you live somewhere where avocados are grown, it's likely that you can purchase locally grown avocados from farmers, farm stands, farmers markets and even some grocery stores, during these months. But beware, many local grocery stores still stock imported avocados during the high season because they're much less expensive. 3. Unfortunately, local growers have lost a great deal of the market to imported produce, and avocados are a perfect example. 4. Imported produce is not sustainable because it relies on fossil fuels in order to get to your table. It goes from the farmer, travel from other state or country, middleman such as a grocery store, then to your table. 5. When you don't know where your food is coming from, you don't know the conditions in which the food is being grown or the conditions for the workers. Sustainability means fair trade, so it's important that we know that the workers are being paid correctly and treated correctly. 6. Avocados naturally fit into the low sustainable food group because it does use a lot more water to grow compared to many other crops. - If the above hasn't raised some red flags for you, maybe this might.... 7. Because of the high price tag on avocados, these crops are becoming very popular, which is causing deforestation, destruction of ecosystems, funding drug cartels, and contributing to climate change!

I would like to thank all those souls who reached out, personally and energetically, to check in with me over the past week. You are appreciated and felt. Likewise, I continually wish you much fortitude during these times.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ As an empath, the past week was emotionally triggering and mentally provoking, all simultaneously. With everything currently happening, it can be difficult to focus on mental health, to embrace creativity, to ease tension, etc.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Before I wrote my last post, I observed myself storing tension in my jaws and upper back, and unintentionally restricting my breath. I had a moment present itself to reveal the many emotions that felt invited to meet me at the surface. I realized that some of these congested emotions were so outdated, and the only way to continue healing and moving forward was to release and write.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’m here to remind you (and myself) of the many shades of spiritual awakening. When we experience the peak of the summit, more clouds disperse, fostering more profound curiosity and fervor. In addition, we become aware of more challenges on our path.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ There is seemingly always more of the mountain for us to hike, more to this experience to explore; this is what we came here for — the human experience. From this vantage point, we cannot only see our life’s trajectory of becoming, but we can also witness the Earth’s evolutionary shifts. And we can also breathe.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ALLOW THE BREATH TO ALCHEMIZE.⁣⁣ ALLOW THE BREATH TO MANIFEST.⁣⁣ ALLOW THE BREATH TO CALM.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Belly breathing, also known as diaphragmatic breathing, can help us regulate our nervous systems so that we can promote homeostasis within our organ systems. Eu sempre tenho um patezinho (pastinha, molhinho ou dip) pronto na geladeira. Eles são ótimos para passar no pão e também para trazer uma cremosidade à qualquer refeição mais completa. Hoje fiz um babaganoush, defumando a beringela 🍆 direto na boca do fogão 🔥 e depois de descascar misturei com meio limão espremido, 1 colher de sopa de tahine, 1 colher de sopa (ou um pouco mais) de azeite, um dente de alho picadinho, pimenta do reino e sal a gosto. Dá pra misturar manualmente ou bater no liquidificador. Às vezes eu tenho medo de encontrar um bicho 🐛no meio da beringela, daí prefiro bater no liquidificador pra não ver o dito cujo, até mesmo porque o que os olhos não veem o coração não sente. Any kind of pizza is always a good idea, specially this 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝘇𝘇𝗮🍄🍕 1 serving- personal size 📝Ingredients: ▪️Pizza dough, I used store-bought thin crust pizza dough ▪️½ cup non dairy mozzarella ▪️Truffle oil ▪️Cheese sauce ▪️4 oz mushroom, sliced ▪️½ teaspoon avocado oil ▪️½ garlic clove or a very small one ▪️Salt to taste . 📝Cashew cheese sauce ▪️½ cup soaked cashews (add them to boiling water for 10 mins) ▪️½ tablespoon lime juice ▪️½ tablespoon vinegar ▪️Salt to taste ▪️¼ cup water, more if needed ▪️Pinch of nutritional yeast Add all ingredients to the food processor and blend until creamy texture is achieved.  Add more water if desired and adjust seasoning to taste . Preheat oven at 450F . Heat oil in a pan and sauté garlic for about 1 minute, Add mushrooms and keep cooking for about 5 minutes and add salt to seasoning . Place ⅓ cup of mozzarella cheese on top of pizza crust, add mushrooms and finish with the remaining  mozzarella on top. Place pizza in the oven for about 6-8 minutes until the pizza crust gets crispy.  Remove from the oven and top with cashew cheese sauce and truffle oil . Enjoy!

It is time to call out vegan brands to do better! if you run through my feed or have been following me for a while, you know I love oatmeal. I grew up eating oatmeal in Ghana and have been enjoying it more since I went vegan. When I make my oatmeal, I share with you guys what I put in and on it. There has been a reckoning happening on social media where people are actively calling on brands to do more than post a square. I have talked to many black vegans about this and there is still frustration concerning brands that we black vegan use on a daily basis, support with our coins but have yet to do better. This bowl for example, i used @bobsredmill gluten free oats with @earthsowncanada oat milk. I also mix in @bobsredmill flaxseeds and @organictraditions chia seeds. We were running low on the oat milk so i used @silk soy milk. For extra protein I sometimes use @vega_team sports vanilla protein (it actually slaps). I then top it with @maison_riviera yoghurt vanilla yoghurt, seeds and nuts I get from @bulkbarn. These are products I use daily and out of all these companies I have mentioned, only a handful have been making strides. I have contacted a few and I know they see my messages about engaging in meaningful conversation but no response. Out of this list @bulkbarn is the only one I have worked with, but they are still not off the hook (they have made no comments about inclusion and diversity in their company) I am not a proponent of cancel culture because sometimes it doesn’t leave room for conversations or room to grow. But if they want our hard earned dollars they need to step up. Add more black creators on their affiliate program, include black people in their campaigns and actively work on being better supporters for black lives.

Tonight we’re having leftover mushroom stroganoff. I really fancied pasta and garlic bread on Tuesday when I made this, and today is a repeat (without the pasta). - This week has been my first week back at work in 10 weeks and I’m both physically and mentally drained. I need to make some chocolate syrup again soon when I have plenty of ripe bananas. Very simple: just dates and powdered cacao. You just slowly add water and blend to get the consistency you like. I have no idea how many dates to how much cacao. It’s pretty instinctive. 😁
